Mastery Learning in Endoscopy Course: 3rd BEST Indonesia Camp Successfully Held in Semarang

Semarang — The Indonesian Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (PEGI), in collaboration with the Academy of Endoscopy (AoE), successfully conducted the Mastery Learning in Endoscopy Course: 3rd BEST Indonesia Camp from April 14–16, 2026, at Gumaya Tower Hotel, Semarang. This event marked the first BEST Camp held outside Jakarta and represents an ongoing effort to enhance competency and standardize endoscopy skills across Indonesia.

BEST (Basic Endoscopy Skills Training) Indonesia Camp is a structured training program focused on developing fundamental gastrointestinal endoscopy skills. Through a mastery learning approach, participants undergo stepwise training with continuous assessment until they achieve the defined competency standards.

A total of 40 participants, consisting of fellows and endoscopy trainees from 12 training centers across Indonesia, took part in the program. Over the course of three days, participants engaged in a comprehensive learning experience combining didactic lectures, case discussions, and hands-on training using simulators and endoscopic equipment.

Hands-on sessions formed the core of the training, where participants practiced directly under the supervision of experienced facilitators. Real-time feedback was provided to support progressive skill improvement and ensure competency attainment.

The implementation of the BEST Camp in Semarang is expected to broaden access to basic endoscopy training in Indonesia and promote more equitable distribution of educational quality among training centers. The collaboration with the Academy of Endoscopy also reflects a commitment to adopting international training standards in advancing national endoscopy competency.
