
ISDE Delegate Participates in JGES STARS 2025 Program in Japan
Jakarta, May 26, 2025 – The Indonesian Society for Digestive Endoscopy (ISDE) continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing the professional development and global networking of its members through active participation in international programs. This year, Dr. Ahmad Fariz Malvi Zamzam Zein, FACP was selected as ISDE’s delegate for the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society Supports Training of Asian Rising Stars (JGES STARS) 2025, held from May 9 to 23, 2025, in Japan.
The JGES STARS program is a prestigious initiative sponsored by the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society (JGES), aimed at fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among emerging endoscopists from five countries: Indonesia, Cambodia, the Philippines, Vietnam, and Mongolia.
As part of the program, Dr. Fariz attended The 109th Congress of the Japan Gastroenterological Endoscopy Society, held in Sapporo, Hokkaido, from May 9 to 11, 2025. During the congress, he was also invited to speak and presented a talk titled, “The Current State of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy in Indonesia: A Challenge to Address”, on May 11, 2025. His presentation highlighted the current landscape, key challenges, and development potential of gastrointestinal endoscopy services in Indonesia.
The opening night of the congress, on May 9, 2025, featured an informal social gathering where Dr. Fariz, along with other JGES STARS participants, attended a baseball game at ES CON Field, Sapporo. This activity fostered cross-cultural interaction and strengthened professional connections in a relaxed and collegial atmosphere.
Following the congress, Dr. Fariz participated in an intensive gastrointestinal endoscopy training program at Gunma University Hospital, Gunma Prefecture, from May 12 to 23, 2025. Under the supervision of Professor Toshio Uraoka, the training included observation of advanced endoscopic procedures such as Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection (ESD), Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR), Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS). In addition, he took part in daily case conferences and internal scientific presentations, gaining a comprehensive educational experience in a leading academic environment in Japan.
Dr. Fariz, who is affiliated with Fatmawati Hospital, represents ISDE’s dedication to international collaboration and its ongoing efforts to enhance the competencies and global exposure of its members. His participation in the JGES STARS 2025 program serves as a meaningful contribution to the society’s vision of professional excellence and knowledge sharing in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy.
