First Batch of Basic Endoscopy Skills Training (BEST) Indonesia Camp Successfully Held in Jakarta
Jakarta, April 29, 2025 – The Indonesian Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (PEGI), in collaboration with the Academy of Endoscopy (AoE), has successfully conducted the first batch of the Basic Endoscopy Skills Training (BEST) Indonesia Camp at the Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta.
This training initiative is part of a long-term commitment by PEGI and AoE to enhance fundamental endoscopy skills among medical professionals across Indonesia. The program was structured into two main phases: a one-week pre-workshop activity held from April 8–16, 2025, followed by a three-day hands-on workshop from April 17–19, 2025.
During the pre-workshop phase, participants engaged in self-paced learning through online modules and practiced basic scope handling techniques using bowl simulators at their respective training centers. This was followed by a comprehensive in-person workshop in Jakarta, where participants received direct mentorship from experienced instructors through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and supervised hands-on training.
The event was attended by 33 participants representing a wide range of cities including Aceh, Semarang, Bandung, Surakarta, Palembang, Yogyakarta, Malang, Denpasar, Makassar, Padang, Jakarta, and Surabaya. This diverse group contributed to a rich exchange of experiences and learning throughout the training.
With the successful implementation of this first batch, PEGI and AoE aim to establish the BEST Indonesia Camp as a regular program to strengthen the foundation of gastrointestinal endoscopy training nationwide and foster professional networking among endoscopists.
The workshop received overwhelmingly positive feedback from participants and faculty alike, marking an important milestone in the advancement of endoscopy education in Indonesia.
