DIGESTIVE PROBLEMS THAT FREQUENTLY HAPPEN DURING THE EARLY FASTING

At the time of fasting the body requires adaptation, including the digestive system. Various problems can arise if the regulation of eating patterns during fasting is not appropriate. The following is the explanation from Epistel P. Simatupang, MD consultant gastroenterology hepatology, regarding digestive problems that often arise at the beginning of fasting.

  1.  Nausea Vomiting

On the first day of fasting, people tend to eat too much when they break their fast and go straight to bed. Meanwhile, while sleeping, the body’s metabolism will slow down, and when the stomach is still full, it ends up not having suhoor.

If so, during the day the stomach becomes empty and stomach acid rises. Therefore, try to always eat at suhoor so that at least the stomach is filled until noon and avoid fatty foods. And add high-fiber foods because it makes the stomach full longer.

  1. Diarrhea

Consumption of too much food can also trigger diarrhea because basically fat is difficult to digest. To overcome a healthy balanced diet and not excessive.

  1. Bloating

Flatulence is caused by eating and drinking too much. In the stomach, fluids are the first to be passed down into the small intestine only after removing acids and enzymes. When the process has not been completed but is added to drink again, then digestion slows down again.

  1. Constipation

When on an empty stomach for approximately 14 hours, due to defecation becomes less frequent. Constipation can be overcome by drinking 6 to 8 glasses of water a day and consuming high fiber.

  1. Relapse of GERD

This problem often occurs in people who like to break their fast late, then eat a lot and go straight to bed. As a result, stomach acid rises into the esophagus and feels hot in the pit of the stomach. Overcome the recurrence of GERD by avoiding overeating, and avoiding coffee and high-fat foods. Then don’t worry after eating. If you want to sleep, you should give a gap of 2-3 hours after eating. Then if you want to sleep after suhoor use a higher-lying position.
