Beware of One of the Risk Factors for Covid-19: Obesity
Commonly known risk factors for Covid-19 are resistance, environment, and the presence of the virus. However, consultant gastroentero-hepatology and chairman of PB PEGI, Prof. Dr. dr. Ari Fahrial Syam, MMB, SpPD, K-GEH, FACP, FACG, FINASIM (@dokterari) said that there is one other risk factor that can worsen Covid-19 because it causes complications, namely obesity.
When obese sufferers are exposed to Covid-19, at the same time the patient will experience cachexia or poor health, marked by weight loss and muscle loss as well as anorexia or eating disorders. Even if the patient’s condition before being exposed to Covid-19 was good, then their condition would be better and recover faster. Therefore, it is necessary for people to maintain food patterns and nutrition, considering that 21% of the population, especially adults, are obese, and this percentage continues to increase. The average per capita calorie consumption in a day is 2,177 or above the 2,100 standard, while protein consumption is 64.64 grams or above the minimum requirement of 57 grams. However, the consumption of excess calories is not balanced with the consumption of vegetables and fruits. In addition, there is still high consumption of fast food and beverages. This needs to be addressed to prevent obesity.
Healthy greetings.
