2nd BEST Indonesia Camp Successfully Held: High Enthusiasm Among Participants
Jakarta — The Indonesian Society for Digestive Endoscopy (ISDE), in collaboration with the Academy of Endoscopy (AoE), successfully organized the Mastery Learning in Endoscopy Course: 2nd Basic Endoscopy Skills Training (BEST) Indonesia Camp, held on 13–15 November 2025 at Hotel Borobudur Jakarta. This program marks the second implementation of the BEST Camp, following the success of the inaugural cohort in April 2025.
The training program was conducted in two stages: Pre-Workshop and Workshop. The Pre-Workshop stage took place from 3–12 November 2025 and was completed independently at each participant’s respective training center. During this phase, participants practiced scope handling using a bowl simulator, studied educational modules, and completed quizzes through the Canvas platform. As part of the learning process, they were also required to submit videos of their scope handling practice to a designated group, where the recordings were reviewed and provided with direct feedback by the instructors/faculties. This approach ensured an interactive learning environment and allowed each participant to receive personalized evaluation.
The BEST Indonesia Camp reflects ISDE’s strong commitment to promoting the standardization of knowledge and basic gastrointestinal endoscopy skills for fellowship and subspecialty trainees in gastroenterohepatology (GEH) across Indonesia. Through structured programs like BEST Camp, ISDE aims to enhance competency evenly among doctors from various regions—ensuring quality endoscopy services from Sabang to Merauke.
This year’s program was attended by 45 physicians, comprising 42 internists and 3 pediatricians specializing in gastroenterohepatology. Participants represented 12 teaching hospitals that run the Subspecialty Training Program in Internal Medicine (GEH concentration) and the Basic Endoscopy Fellowship Program, including centers in Medan, Padang, Palembang, Jakarta, Bandung, Semarang, Yogyakarta, Surakarta, Surabaya, Malang, Denpasar, and Makassar.
The training covered a comprehensive range of topics, including Scope Handling, Standardized EGD, Basic Upper GI Findings, Basic Hemostasis, Colonoscopy Technique, Lower GI Findings, Cold Snare Polypectomy, Variceal Ligation, and Foreign Body Extraction.
ISDE hopes that the BEST Indonesia Camp will provide substantial benefits for all participants, especially in improving their technical skills and confidence in delivering safe, effective, and high-quality endoscopy services in daily clinical practice.
